Timber Creek Loop

We drove up the Baker Road at Great Basin National Park to hike the Timber Creek Loop Trail. The ranger had no recent trip reports for this trail, we decided to see how far we could get. We ended up going out about 1.5 miles  and up to 9,000ft before the trail went up a very steep snow covered slope with downfalls making the route uncertain. We did not want to go up the drainage as we could hear water running under the snow.
We did see some marmots along the Baker road!

Other hikers had done the lower loop along Baker Creek. We started up the Timber Creek Trail

There are a couple of nice wooden bridges going over the creeks at the beginning of the trail
Icicles on a log over the creek. It was a cold morning.
Beautiful forest.
The lower part of the trail was snow free.

Snow patches began at about 8,100 ft. Here a turkey was ahead of us on the trail (in the shade)

some nice views to the east
side trail to Pole Canyon
At 8,600 ft we had consistent snow, obliterating all signs of the trail. We were using gps to help with the route. There were some old arrows on some of the trees.
Some cat prints perhaps? I quit taking photos before we got to the steep slope, was too busy trying to find a route up.
We decided to turn around and do another hike after this one along Wheeler Scenic Drive.
Partly sunny day, we decided to go see if we could see Wheeler Peak from the other side of the mountain.
Overall we hiked 3 miles round trip with 1,000 ft of gain
