There are a couple of rock art sites near the rest area.
We saw wildflowers in bloom along side the highway.
Trail leads up in an alcove to one site.
Pictograph called the Moqui Queen.
Sad to see bullet holes in the pictograph. This sign reminds visitors of the laws protecting these sites.
Another site is on the other side of the highway, behind a large boulder
We had to look up to see the petroglyphs
This one was very difficult to see
Map of Hog Canyon. We hiked up to the water pool, and a short ways up the side canyon to the southwest.
From the west area, a bridge crosses North Wash, leading to the trail
The trail would cross over the small stream in Hog Canyon many times
We saw lots of bright yellow prince's plume and
yucca in bloom.
Because of the recent rains, there were several small pools in the canyon
lots of tadpoles in the small ponds
beautiful green canyon
we saw several birds in the trees and flying by
the cottonwood trees are very happy here
very large boulder
first view of the small waterfall and deep pool a mile up the canyon
other views of the pool
looking down from the overhand above the pool
view upstream from the pool
we would see more pools up the side canyon
lots of wildflowers and cacti in bloom
an interesting canyon to explore
a dry fall where we decided to turn around
a wonderful short hike, we were able to return to the car before the rain started
some of the wildflowers we saw in bloom along the trail today:
