Gooseberry Trail in Canyonlands

Up on the Island of the Sky area of Canyonlands National Park, looking down towards the White Rim near the start of the Gooseberry Trail. This trail descends 1,400 ft and goes out to the White Rim, a 5.4 mile round trip hike.
From the parking area, we hiked to the edge of the Island in the Sky.
The trail descends quickly down the cliff side.
Soon, we could see far below to the White Rim.
Wide angle shot of the upper trail with views down to the White Rim.

Steep trail, we found we hiked up this trail quicker than we hiked down. As we were careful of the loose rock on the steep path.
We did stop on the way down to enjoy the view and take pictures.

Another wide angle shot further down the trail.

The start of the trail descends between the two rocky "towers" seen in the upper part of this photo.
There are many interesting shaped boulders and rock formations. This one looked like a share complete with umbrella.

Looking back up to where we descended on this trail.

The trail then enters a wash as it crosses the White Rim plateau to the edge of the White Rim
Another look back.
We then crossed a large rocky area.

At the edge of the White Rim
Steep drop off to the canyon below.
We walked along the edge of this canyon, so beautiful.
Panorama looking back at the cliff wall of the Island in the Sky.

We enjoyed the hike back up the Gooseberry Trail, lots of views.
Better lighting in the afternoon.

The lichen made some interesting patterns on the rocks.
