Druid Stones Trail

There have been high wind warnings in the mountains, so we chose to hike at lower elevation and found a hike near Bishop called Druid Stones in Inyo National Forest. This was a 5.2 mile hike with 2,100' gain. View of some Sierra Peaks to the north across the road from the start of the trail.

The lower parts of the trail had lots of buckwheat in bloom. White Mountains across the valley to the northeast.

Further up the trail, we started hiking among boulders.

Another view of the White Mountains

Large boulders and distant Sierra Peaks

More large boulders along the trail as we continued up.

About 1.25 miles up the trail it splits into a long narrow loop.

We choose to do the loop clockwise, going up the steeper side and coming down the much less steep side.

Lovely texture on this large boulder

We found lots of phacelia in bloom, most of it in the shade of trees.

We missed the turn to go down on the loop, and went an extra 100 ft uphill before realizing we had gone too far. Up near the top of the loop were large plants of phlox in bloom.

Views and boulders on the downhill side of the loop.

Heading back down the main trail to the trailhead.

We saw many lizards today, they ran quickly across the trail and under bushes. I zoomed in on this lizard hiding in a bush.
