Black Point and Fissures

For our third hike in the Mono Basin National Forest Scenic Area today, we drove to the north shore of Mono Lake to hike up to Black Point and Fissures. Our route was about 2.5 miles with 500 ft of gain. This is a beautiful area along Mono Lake with snow capped Sierra Mountains to the west.

There are no trails here, so we went cross country up Black Peak, careful not to step on the flowers and other plants.

Looking back at Mono Lake to the south as we hiked up Black Point.

We only explored a couple of the fissures up on Black Point.

I think we could have spent a whole day up here exploring the many fissures.

We took a different route down to the parking area, passing the top of Black Point from the opposite side.
