Stevens Lakes

We drove out east of Mullan, Idaho off of I-90 to the Stevens Lakes Trailhead to hike up to Stevens Lakes. 5.3 miles round trip with 1,770 ft of gain. The trail is mostly in the forest, but has areas that open up to views of the nearby rocky cliffs and mountain ridges. We were seeing some of the early fall colors.
The trail will cross the East Fork of Willow Creek and do a huge switchback through the talus field on the side of this ridge.
Waterfall where we cross Willow Creek, the outlet of Stevens Lakes.
The trail goes up and across this scree field.
We saw lots of gentian along the upper part of the trail near the lakes.
More fall colors has we continue to gain elevation.
Lower Stevens Lake from the north shore

The trail continues along the west shore of the lake.

Happy to have blue sky and sunshine today without any fire smoke.

We found the trail up to Upper Stevens Lake overgrown and hard to follow. We got off trail and were bushwhacking a few times, but where glad we made it up to the upper lake. Views from the north shore of Upper Lewis Lake

We had a lovely lunch break here.

We didn't see any other hikers until we were almost back down to Lower Stevens Lake.
