Lofty Lake Loop

We drove up to the Pass Lake Trailhead in the Western Uintah Mountains to hike the Lofty Lake Loop Trail with a side trip to the top of Scout Peak. Overall 5 miles with 1,160ft of gain. Beautiful hike with many mountain peaks and even more alpine lakes. The trail starts at 10,150 ft of altitude and stays above 10,000 ft for the entire loop.
We hiked the loop counterclockwise and a short distance through the forest had us passing Picturesque Lake.

As we began to hike up, we passed this fun viewpoint,

and had a nice view of Bald Mountain and Reids Peak.

Next, we hiked past Scout Lake, enjoying the view to the east, and
to the west.

The trail then climbed up through the rocky slopes to the pass between Scout Peak and Lofty Peak, seen in this photo (the pass is to the left of the photo).
View of Mirror Lake, part of Pass Lake, Scout Lake and an unnamed Lake from the west side of the trail going up to the pass.
View to the southeast from the rocky slope of Scout Peak as we headed up to the top.

View of Marsell Mountain and Kamas Lake to the north from the top of Scout Peak (elevation of 11,113 ft).

We then hiked to the southern edge of Scout Peak for this fabulous view of many of the nearby lakes.

View to the west from this same spot.

Back on the trail, view looking north to Marsell Mountain and Lofty Lake.

The trail returned into the forest, where we had some glimpses of Reids Peak.
The trail stays in the forest as it goes around Reid's Meadow, there are several open areas to see Bald Mountain and Reids Peak across the meadow.

It was nice to see some fall colors in the forest.

A look at Scout Peak through the trees as we were completing the loop trail.
