Klahhanne Ridge

We drove up to Hurricane Ridge at Olympic National Park to hike the Klahhanne Ridge Trail, 8 miles round trip with 1,800 ft of overall gain. We only saw 2 hikers on our way up the trail and less then 20 on our way back, a very quiet day on the trail. Although the forecast was mostly sunny, we were mostly in the clouds. We did have a nice view from Hurricane Ridge when we drove into the the parking lot. View to the south.

We hiked through the trail in the meadow at Hurricane Ridge and saw this bunny hiding next to the trail.
There was lots of pearly everlasting in bloom along the trail.

As we left the meadow on our way up towards Sunrise Point there were two deer on either side of the trail, a doe and

this young buck.

Past a cloudy Sunrise Point we saw some ravens,
and two grouse.

We were soon hiking in the clouds.
As we went up the switchbacks on Klahhanne Ridge the clouds blew around us, some times revealing part of the ridge.

Up on Klahhanne Ridge the clouds seemed trapped all along the north side of the ridge.

We took a lunch break and watched the clouds dance across the sky, at times revealing mountain peaks to the south.
As we hiked back towards Mount Angeles, we saw the mountain mostly free of clouds and were able to see part way down the north side of the ridge (pano)

Although most of the views were covered in clouds on our hike back, we saw more wildlife. We watched this chipmunk jump in and out of holes, acting very squirrely.
We saw a couple more grouse, they were moving quickly and gobbling up all the harebells they could find.
We saw more deer near the trail including this dow and her fawn.
