Alpine Lake Loop and the Bristlecone and Glacier Trails

Today, we drove to the end of Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive at Great Basin National Park to combine to hikes: The Alpine Lakes Loop and the Bristlecone/Glacier Trail. We did not hike all the way up to the glacier.  We hiked 5.2 mile with 970 ft of overall elevation gain.
We opted to hike counterclockwise on the Alpine Lakes Trail, views of Davis and Wheeler Peaks behind the trees.
Near the beginning of the trail, we hiked through the golden aspens.
Another view of Davis and Wheeler Peaks behind the trees.

We went by a meadow where some mule deer were grazing.
zoom photos of some of the mule deer:

The trail went though another meadow, Wheeler Peak on the right.

Wide angle view of Stella Lake:

Teresa Lake was much smaller.
Teresa Lake is probably much larger earlier in the summer. Wheeler Peak in the distance.
About 2 miles from the trailhead, the trail joins the Bristlecone/Glacier Trail. About 0.7 miles up, we entered a section of the Bristlecone Forest.
These trees are ancient and beautiful.
Davis Peak in the distance.
It's amazing that this tree is still alive.
Love the twisted bark on this tree.
After the Bristlecone loop, we continued about 0.4 mile up the Glacier Trail, Here there are some beautiful rocky cliffs.
Information about the glacier (the last remaining glacier in Nevada).
We continued a short ways up the trail to see the glacier below Wheeler Peak:

A great place to sit and take in the views (Wheeler Peak on the right).

As we neared the end of the loop trail, we could see golden aspens on the ridge beyond the parking area.
