Kirk Hill

Our afternoon hike was to Kirk Hill south of Bozeman. There are several loops to choose from, along with a longer trail that entered Gallatin National Forest. We had a limited amount of time to hike so we did the loop trails on the west side. We did 1.7 miles with 600+ ft of elevation gain. This was a fabulous wildflower hike!
From the parking lot, the trail goes through the aspens before
quickly climbing up the hill in a series of switchbacks

View to the north looking over Bozeman and the Bridger Range

Panorama view to the west, the Madison Ridge in the background

When we returned near the bottom of the hill, we found an alternate path back to the trailhead. Gave us an opportunity to see more variety of flowers.

Some of the many wildflowers in bloom we saw along the trail today:
shooting star

penstemon

glacier lily
larkspur
Old man's beard

twin flower
trillium

lupine

wild violet

    1. I have placed names by the flowers I think I know their names. I am not an expert, not even an amateur. I just enjoy wildflowers
