Canyon Overlook Trail in Zion National Park

Our first hike of the day was the Canyon Overlook Trail which is located just east of the large tunnel on the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway. We were greeted by big horn sheep at the parking area! This hike is only 1 mile round trip, but it is a beautiful trail!!!

The beginning of the trail overlooks the east end of the tunnel.

Most of the 150 ft of elevation gain is at the beginning of the trail.
The trail is mostly on rock
 and overlooks Pine Creek Gorge.
There are many colorful and interesting rock formations

The trail goes under this large overhang (wide angle photo)

Impressive views as we near the end of the trail
View into Zion Canyon from the overlook at the end of the trail.

Pano from the overlook:

Before heading back, we saw more big horn sheep on the ledges above us.
On the way back, a cougar ran across the trail in front of my sister. We only got photos of his prints.
