We only saw 5 other hikers on this popular trail today.
We decided to park where the spur road leads to the trailhead and walk down that portion of the road.
I found a heart shaped patch of lichen in the rocks
Trail to the Citadel, goes west away from the edge of Road Canyon
Distant view of the Bears Ears to the north
View of Road Canyon along the trail
This portion of the trail goes out onto a "peninsula" in the middle of Road Canyon. The trail drops down on the south side of this peninsula.
Watch for cairns to show the best places to scramble down to the ledge below
Heading west on this lower ledge
I was hoping the Citadel was located under this ledge, but we needed to drop down another ledge and cross a land bridge to that other rock formation off in the distance.
The land bridge in the middle of Road Canyon leading to the Citadel
Other side of the land bridge
The land bridge is quite wide
A large boulder that looks like a human head
The Citadel located under in an alcove
Views of Road Canyon from up at the Citadel
Wide angle view of Road Canyon and the land bridge leading from the Citadel back to the trailhead.
As we retuned along the trail, we could look down and see the Seven Kivas ruins below.
