Parunweap Canyon Merwyn Canyon

We drove out to the Parunweap Canyon Wilderness Study Area to hike up Merwyn Canyon. (HCV with 4WD needed).
We hiked up a wash on our way to Merwyn Canyon
There were lots of gorgeous rock formations

It's about 1.5 miles up to Merywn Canyon.
The entrance to Merywn Canyon is under this large arch.

View from underside of the arch

Some of the views along the slot canyon.

A bit of scrambling was needed to get over this boulder

We continued up the canyon beyond the slot.
I like the different designs that can be found in sandstone walls.
We followed up one of the tributaries
until we reached this steep pour off.
We then retraced our steps and went part way up the other tributary
We saw this interesting boulder
We saw these adult and cub cougar prints in the sand for quite awhile.
Continuing up the tributary.
Where we decided to turn around.
Some more views of Merwyn slot canyon as we hiked back down

More views as we hiked out of the slot canyon back to the car.
