We drove to the NE corner of Lassen National Park to the end of Butte Lake Road to hike the Butte and Bathtub Lakes Loop, 2.3 miles with 300 ft of overall gain. This hike is through a lovely pine forest, going by 3 lakes. We didn't see anyone else on the trail today. View of Butte Lake from the parking area.
We went clockwise along the loop.
The first part of the trail is mainly volcanic ash and pine needles, so soft.
An unnamed lake, seen before reaching Bathtub Lake.
