Ape Canyon

Drove out to the Ape Canyon Trailhead at Mt St Helens National Volcanic Monument to hike up Ape Canyon and part way along the Plains of Abraham. 11.7 miles round trip with 2,450 ft of overall gain View of Mt St Helens and an old wide layer flow from a spur trail a short way up the main trail.

Another view of Mt St Helens from further up the trail.
Most of the trail before reaching Ape Canyon is in the forest, there were lots of wildflowers along the way.
A view of Mt Adams to the east, as seen over some bushes along the trail.
View of Mt St Helens as the trail travels on the west side of the ridge.
View from above Ape Canyon, Mt Adams in the distance.

A hill on the east side of the Plains of Abraham was covered in paintbrush and penstemon.

On the way back, I stoped where a creek drops into Ape Canyon for my lunch break. I soaked my head in the water to cool off.
Heading back down along the Lowitt Trail. I enjoyed the views and the wildflowers today.
One of the frogs I saw along the trail.
