Thunder Knob

We stopped off on the west side of Hwy 20 to hike up to Thunder Knob near Lake Diablo. The parking area is right off the highway by Colonial Creek Campground. This is a 3.6 mile round trip hike with 360 feet of elevation gain.
To reach the trail, walk through the campground on the north side of the highway.

The bridge did not quite cover the entire creek. First, we walked across the large log seen in this photo, then walked across the bridge.

This hike is entirely in the forest, we did find ripe red huckleberries along the lower portion of the trail.
As we were going up, we had a peekaboo view of where Hwy 20 crosses over Thunder Arm

About 1/2 way along, we reached the first viewpoint, with a view of Colonial Peak
About 3/4 of the way along, the trail goes around a marsh.
We saw a couple of grouse this morning. This one was calling to her chicks to join her.
At the second viewpoint, we had a nice view of Lake Diablo and Sourdough Mountain.

The final viewpoint had quite a few trees.

Back down at the campground, we walked to the beach. Thunder Knob is on the left.
