Beautiful hike with lots of waterfalls and some interesting water features.
The first mile or so of the trail is through the woods.
Here, I liked how these twin flowers have congregated over a decaying log.
mock orange
fireweed and paintbrush
monkey flowers and paintbrush
Twin peaks above the waterfall on Falls Creek
Closer view of this waterfall
We went about 0.25 mile up to the waterfall then returned to the main trail.
About 0.5 mile from the trailhead we crossed this stream over logs on the water.
Besides wildflowers in the forest, there were open areas with many wildflowers along the way.
View of Hurricane Creek and Sacajawea Peak
The boundary of the Eagle Cap Wilderness is in this burn area.
The trail enters meadows filled with wildflowers (Sacajawea Peak)
Distant snowy peaks
We were surrounded by wildflowers in the meadows
The rail went through another forest section, here we found lady slipper orchids!!!!
A boot path further up the trail took us along the Hurricane Creek Rapids
This boot track rejoined the main trail a little ways up the hill.
Trail heading towards Slick Rock Falls
Slick Rock Falls from the other side of Slick Rock Creek. Lots of wildflowers and views here, great spot for a lunch break and turn around point
a sun dog appeared during our lunch break
penstemon and asters where Slick Rock Creek enters Hurricane Creek
some of the many wildflowers we saw in bloom along the trail:
