Wahweap Hoodoos

On our drive between Page Arizona and Kanab Utah, we stopped in Big Water Utah to hike to the Wahweap Hoodoos. Our hike was 10.5 miles with about 300 ft of elevation gain. We didn't see anyone else on this hike until we were almost back to the trailhead, where we came across 2 other hikers.

There was water in the "usually dry" creek bed about 1/2 mile before the trailhead. We opted to park in the small parking area before this wash.
After 1/2 mile road walk, we arrived at the trailhead and followed the signs to the gate in a barbed wire fence.
From here we hiked up the wide Wahweap Creek wash. The first part had some beautiful red cliffs to the west.
To the east, were white cliffs and rock formations.
I enjoyed seeing the cliffs along both sides of the wash as we continued northward.

We could tell we were getting close to the Wahweap Hoodoos, when the cliffs to the west were white sandstone with black rock on top.
We soon saw some small hoodoos along the way.
A large hoodoo in the making.
The first hoodoo area.

After traveling close to the cliffs through some tamarack bushes, we arrived at the second hoodoo area. This was the largest of the 3 areas.

Towering cliffs above us as we continued around the corner to more hoodoos in the second area.

Nearing the 3rd hoodoo area.

Some detail in the sandstone

Enjoying the hoodoos on the way back to the trailhead.
