Serious warning about being in Grizzly Country and in the Wilderness in general. Amazing how many people told me they hadn't read the signs at the trailhead.
About 1/2 mile up the trail, we spotted a large grizzly bear on the trail (must zoom in and look between the trees after the trail turns to the right, about the center of the photo).
We took out our bear spray and backed as far down the trail while still being able to watch the grizzly.
We waited until he had left the trail to continue hiking. We talked pretty loudly for the next 30 minutes or so.
Although the forecast was cloudy, most of the clouds stayed high.
One of several stream crossings.
Hiking among these Rocky Mountains was wonderful!
small pond along the trail.
We saw a fresh bear print, but did not see another bear on this hike.
There were some late wildflowers in bloom.
wildflowers and views, I'd love to hike through Preston Park in the height of wildflower season.
The trail headed up to this saddle, then continues to climb up to the right on Matahpi Peak.
Found and left some heart shaped rocks on the trail.
Beautiful blue tarns below Mount Siyeh.
As we reached the saddle, the wind gusts got stronger. There were times when we sat down and waited for the gusts to blow over.

Looking south from Siyeh Pass, very cloudy.
Enjoying the views as we hike back to the trailhead.

the beargrass must have been amazing earlier in the summer
