Plummer Peak

Beautiful day for a hike. In the morning we drove up to Reflection Lakes at Mt Rainier National Park to hike up to Pinnacle Peak Saddle and on to Plummer Peak, a 4 mile round trip hike with 1,800 ft of elevation gain.

The trail starts gaining elevation from the beginning and goes through a lovely forest with lots of huckleberry bushes.

The trail crosses a few scree fields, we heard several pika and saw this marmot in the rocks on our way up the trail.
As the trail gains in elevation, it comes out of the trees. Plummer Peak in the distance.

This would also allow us to have wonderful views of Mt Rainier.

There were some late blooming wildflowers along the way as well.
There are some switchbacks on the last stretch up to Pinnacle Peak Saddle.

Wide angle view: the notch is Pinnacle Peak Saddle, Plummer Peak is near the middle of this photo

There are no maintained trails after the saddle, but there are many boot tracks leading to the various peaks in the Tatoosh. Looking north to Mt Rainier and east to Pinnacle Peak.

The boot track becomes narrow with some exposure.

We watched a chinook helicopter fly over the top of Mt Rainier.

Some of the foliage is beginning to turn colors.

The trail then goes up among the rocks to Plummer Peak

We watched this marmot in the scree field on our way back down the trail.

He ran across the trail behind us.

Some fireweed in bloom back down at Reflection Lakes.
