On this beautiful sunny day, we headed up to the Sunrise area of Mt Rainier National Park to hike the Fremont Lookout Trail, 5 miles round trip with 800 ft of gain.
There was some nice fall color near the parking area.
Nice views of Mt Rainier a short ways up the trail to Sourdough Ridge, there are still a few wildflowers hanging on.
There are a few spots along Sourdough Ridge with views to the north. We saw a few mountain goats near McNeeley Peak. Mt Baker and Glacier Peak in the very far distance.
Mt Rainier behind First Burroughs, Shadow Lake and Sunrise Camp down below.
Trail heading along the side of Mount Fremont.
Fremont Lookout down at the end of the trail. West Fork of the White River below us.
Wide angle view to the south along the trail: Little Tahoma; Mt Rainier; First, Second & Third Burroughs and Skyscrapper Mountain
We saw a herd of mountain goats grazing near the Wonderland Trail nearing Skyscrapper Mt
Mt Fremont Lookout and views to the north, including a snow capped peak in Canada, Mt Baker, Glacier Peak and Mt Stuart
There were some aggressive ground squirrels at the lookout, I wish people would not feed them according to Leave No Trace principles.
View to the north through the lookout windows.
View to the south through the lookout windows.
Pano view as we returned hiking down the trail.
Frozen Lake was very blue in the afternoon sunlight.
We saw some deer as we returned along Sourdough Ridge.
Another lovely view of Mt Rainier as we neared the parking area at Sunrise.
