Duckabush Trail

Drove to the Duckabush River Trail off of FSR 2510 near Brinnon, WA along Hood Canal. This is a nice low forested trail that extends into Oympic Natiotional Park and connects to many trails there. Today, we decided to hike along the trail to the top of the Big Hump and a little bit beyond before returning. We hiked 8.5 miles rt with 1,800 ft of overall elevation gain. We were hoping to find wildflowers and were not disappointed! The trail starts flat going a short distance before rising 350+ ft over little hump.
In the spring, there are lots of creeks and plenty of green in the trees, ferns and moss. Lots of interesting trunks and stumps.

 There are several small cascades.
 Wonderful large trees and stumps,

 any many gurgling brooks.

After a mile, the trail drops down to the Duckabush River, which was full.
About 3 miles or so, the trail begins climbing Big Hump in a series of switchbacks.

Lots to see along the way, from large boulders,

 to colorful flora,

and, in the spring, lots of wildflowers in bloom.
About 3.5 miles from the trailhead, a protruding ledge gives a nice view of the valley below, looking towards the east,
 looking towards the west.

The trail goes through an old burn area, and we could see where hundreds of trees came down in this last fall and winter storms. Thanks to many trail workers, we hear the trail is now clear to 1/2 mile beyond 5 mile camp further along.

We returned the way we came, enjoying the scenery as much on the way back.

Some of the wildflowers, blossoms and other flora we saw today:
