Nisqually Wildlife Refuge Winter Walk

Today was beautiful, so I stopped at the Nisqually National Refuge off of I-5 north of Lacey for a nice leg stretch. There are 4 miles of trail, through woodlands, meadows and over the water in the Nisqually Delta. Beautiful morning with great views and lots of birds along the  way.

Turtle enjoying the sun in one of the woodland ponds

Pretty pink algae

Snow capped Olympic Mountains seen on the way to the boardwalk
Lots of ducks today

Mergansers
Great blue heron
 Young bald eagle
 American widgeons

Bird prints in the mud

Panorama along the boardwalk over the Nisqually Delta. Could see the Narrows bridge and even Mt Baker far to the north.

Mt Rainier to the northeast

interesting driftwood

old barns in the meadow

this song bird sang to me as I walked along the path

The Nisqually River, I saw a large bald eagle here, but could not get it's picture
