Picture Canyon
We drove out to Picture Canyon in Flagstaff this afternoo to do a short loop hike, including the Crane Petroglyph Site, for 2.7 miles and very little elevation change. We started on the Tom Moody Trail going counterclockwise, stopping at what I believe is the only year round waterfall in Flagstaff, this trail includes part of the Arizona Trail. After viewing the Crane Petroglyph Site, we returned along the trail for about 0.2 mile to a trail junction and returned on the Don Weaver trail to the trailhead, with side trips to a pithouse and the petroglyph overlook.
The trail is mostly in the pine forest, but we did have some fall colors along the way.
The waterfall is about 0.4 miles from the trailhead
Some fall colors above the river canyon and the trail on our way to the petroglyphs
The Watebird Petroglyph Site with some of the many petroglyphs found among the boulders
Heading up the Don Weaver Trail
Most of the Don Weaver Trail is a pipeline access road, we could hear rumbling beneath our feet as we walked down this portion.
The pithouse was roped off, a view between the plants
From the Petroglyph Overlook, looking down the river canyon and a zoom of the petroglyphs
