We drove to the northern part of Bandelier National Monument this morning to do hikes across the road from each other. The first one was up to Cerro Grande, at 10,199 ft it is the tallest point in Bandelier National Monument. This was a 4.5 mile round trip hike with 1,200 ft gain. We were happy to see wildflowers blooming on the first of October.
The first part of the hike was fairly flat and through the pine forest. As the trail gained elevation, we began to get views of nearby mountains.
