Kendrick Mountain

We drove up to to the Kaibab National Forest, north of Flagstaff to hike the Kendrick Trail up to Kendrick Mountain (10,418 ft) in the Kendrick Mountain Wilderness, 9 miles round trip with 2,600 ft of gain.
Most of the trail was in and out of the forest. we did have to wait a bit for 3 cows to move off the trail before we could continue.
I was thankful for the nice grade of this trail as it is my first time at this altitude for 8 months. View to the west of several old cinder cones.
Our first view of the San Francisco Mountains to the south.
Kendrick Mountain with the fire lookout on top, we have quite a ways to go.
Views further up the trail
After going up and around Kendrick Mountain, we can see we are much closer to the top.
There is a small cabin at 10,100 ft.
Fire Lookout on top of Kendrick Mountain; as we reached the top of Kendrick Mountain, two Fire Forest Rangers arrived and let us up the fire lookout and inside the lookout. Soon a horse pack arrived to supply the lookout.
view of the San Francisco mountains to the southeast
Looking east, the painted desert is in the very far distance
View to the north, in the far distance we could see the North Rim of the Grand Canyon
looking into the fire lookout
view of the San Francisco Mountains through the fire lookout
inside the fire lookout
back down at the cabin, we saw a couple of the pack horses resting in the shade
The wildflowers are just starting to bloom, we only saw a few today.
