Boulder Point and Boulder Lake Summer Hike in Montana

Today we drove up in the Lolo National Forest, north of Missoula Montana to hike up to Boulder Point and Boulder Lake. The hike was 12.7 miles rt with an overall elevation gain of 2,600 ft.
While driving up the Gold Creek FS road we saw lots of wildlife: elk, deer, grouse, a badger, and a rabbit.

The trail starts at 5,730 ft of elevation and enters an old burn area.  It was nice to see all the new trees growing. This trail does have many downed trees to climb over, under and around.

We hiked through several wildflower meadows,

enjoying the flowers and the views around us.

One of the stream crossings was deep enough that we took off our hiking boots and donned our sandals.

There was lots of green growth among the burned trees.

The trail was lined with wildflowers.
We saw several squirrels and chipmunks.
Many huckleberry bushes, the berries are not quite ripe.

About 5 miles from the trailhead, we reached the top of Boulder Point at 7,293 ft. 800 ft above Boulder Lake.

We saw some snow covered peaks in the distance.
We then continued down the trail to Boulder Lake, going past bogs, a creek and more wildflowers.
We decided to cool off by taking a dip in Boulder Lake, before returning to the trailhead. Boulder Point can be seen in the distance.
