Klahhanne Ridge Trail

We drove up to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park to hike the Klahhane Ridge Trail, about 8 miles round trip with 2,000 ft of overall gain. We were surprised to see very few cars in the parking lot when we arrived at 9 AM. View from the parking area at Hurricane Ridge, Mt Olympus to the left.

As we started on the trail through the meadow we were greeted my two marmots (zoom)

View looking northwest towards Hurricane Hill
A marmot basking in the morning sun below Sunrise Point amidst the sparse wildflowers.

Haze in the valleys between the Olympic Mountain ridges to the southeast.

View of Mount Angeles and Klahhane Ridge, our destination today. The trail meanders up and down though the forest and across open meadows on the way to meet the Switchback Trail up the side of Klahhane Ridge.
View to the southwest, looking back towards our trailhead and Mount Olympus and Mount Carrie in the far distance and our route along the ridge, as seen from the top of Klahhane Ridge.
Looking northeast towards the Strait of Juan de Fuca from atop Klahhane Ridge

We continued along Klahhane Ridge for awhile, finding a nice spot to take our lunch break.  Wide angle view looking west along Klahhane Ridge

There were a few wildflowers still in bloom along the trail and the bees were very busy today:
