Gallagher Head Lake from the Boulder DeRoux Trailhead Spring Hike

Today we went east to the Teanaways to hike up to Gallagher Head Lake from the Deroux Trailhead, which is up the Teanaway Road North Fork for 13 miles, then FS road #9737 for 8 miles.
This is an 8 mile rt hike with 1,800 ft of elevation gain. This is a nice walk in the woods with lots of wildflowers.

The trail soon drops a short ways to cross the Middle Fork of the Teanaway River on a nice wooden bridge.

The trail follows DeRoux Creek up to Gallagher Head Lake.

The trail crosses DeRoux Creek  over another wooden bridge.
The trail divides and we continue on the Gallagher Head Lake Trail and begins to climb up.

There is a short boot track that leads to a rocky ledge where you can see some of the falls along DeRoux Creek.

As the trail continues to climb, there are a few places where we stopped to look back down the valley to where we had begun.

There are several small creeks that join DeRoux Creek.

As the trail climbed, we began to see Esmeralda Peak in the distance.

Looking down at the water rushing down DeRoux Creek
with some small falls along the way.
The trail levels out and before we entered the meadow there was enough water across DeRoux Creek where we changed into sandals to cross to the other side.

We saw lots of shooting stars all along the trail, but there were thousands of blooms in the meadows, here looking up toward Esmeralda Peak.
Nice flat section of trail through the meadows, looking toward  Hawkins Peak.

The trail begins to climb up to the lake. Here looking to the southwest and DeRoux Peak and Koppen Mountain.

There were lots of glacier lilies in bloom today.

Trail continues to climb and heads toward Hawkins peak,

before spitting, we took the trail on the right, the leads up to Gallagher Lake.
This last section of the trail had patches of snow that continued up the lake.

We didn't see many hikers today. And had part of our lunch time at the lake to ourselves. There is another road that comes up the other side of the lake from Salmon La Sac, we thought it was closed to ORV until June 15th, but there were several ORVs that came up today. We were also passed by a nice group on horseback as we headed back down the trail.
Some of the many flowers we saw on the hike.
