Pinnacles Pass

We are staying at the Chisos Mountain Lodge in Big Bend and were able to walk from our room to the trailhead. On the way we saw two deer.
The lodge and the trailhead are surrounded by mountains. Our route today was 6.8 miles with 1,700' ft overall gain.

The mountains lighting up with color as the sun rose.

Views as we hiked up the Pinnacles Trail:
We saw more deer by the back country campsites.

Alligator juniper

Love all the rock formations on this trail.

This bird sang to us while we were at the pass.

More pinnacle pictures as we hiked back down the trail:

We saw several mama mounds with buds on them, and
found a couple of claret cups in bloom!
We also saw some asters in bloom along the trail.
