Nisqually Vista Trail

We drove up to Paradise at Mt Rainier National Park to hike the Nisqually Vista Trail, 1.2 miles with 200 ft of overall gain. View of Mt Rainier from the lower parking lot.
The trail is paved and goes through both meadows and forest.

When we reached the loop part of the trail we went counterclockwise. Some views through the trees.

We stopped at the Soda Canyon Overlook Trail at Mesa Verde National Park to hike out to the overlooks of Balcony House and Soda Canyon. This was 1.2 miles round trip and was on top of the mesa. We hiked through some juniper trees along the trail.

Looking south along Soda Canyon and Balcony House is in the alcove about the middle of the photo.

Petrified Dunes Trail at Snow Canyon State Park

After a long day driving, we stopped at Snow Canyon State Park near St George Utah and hiked the Petrified Dunes Trail. This is a 1.2 mile round trip hike through the Petrified Dunes and also has great views of the towering red cliffs. We saw a few wildflowers and cacti in bloom.
A gorgeous park!
The trailhead is shared with the Butterfly Trail. Our trail headed south and we were soon walking on the petrified dunes.
To the north were some gorgeous white cliffs
Love the patterns in the petrified dunes
To the south and west are fabulous red cliffs
 fascinating scenery all around
There are trail markers all along the route
We saw a few wildflowers and cacti in bloom

There was also some areas of black lava

The trail leads out to an overlook of the valley for gorgeous views and there are some interesting rock formations here

To the east, in the far distance are some snow capped peaks

Hiking back, I saw things I missed on the way out

Some of these petrified dunes are huge!
love the swirling sand captured in time

We had a great time hiking in the petrified dunes today
