Big Badlands Overlook Badlands National Park

Our last stop at Badlands National Park today was the Big Badlands Overlook near the east entrance to the park. Lovely viewpoint:

 

Window Trail and Door Trail Badlands National Park

From the same parking lot, we hiked the Window Trail (0.25 miles round trip) and the Door Trail (0.75 miles round trip) in Badlands National Park.  As it was it was getting hot, we did not extend the hikes as it is possible to do here. The Window Trail is on a boardwalk. Views along this short trail:

Fossil Exhibit and Castle Trail Badlands National Park

From the parking lot at the Fossil Exhibit Trail, we did the 0.25 mile boardwalk Fossil Exhibit Trail and about 0.5 mile round trip of the west end of the Castle Trail (a 10 mile round trip hike).

We saw mariposa lilies in bloom here.

 

Big Foot Pass Overlook

Big Foot Pass Overlook was another stop through Badlands National Monument. Big Foot Pass is named for a Native American chief.

This swallow reminded us to beware of rattlesnakes in the area.

We also stopped at the Homestead Overlook at Badlands National Park, there were some small sunflowers growing here.
