Cold Boiling Lake and Bumpass Hell
On a wet, cold day, we decided to hike to Cold Boiling Lake and Bumpass Hell from the Kings Creek Picnic Area. This is a 5.5 mile round trip hike with an overall 1,200 ft elevation gain.
Cold Boiling Lake is 0.5 mile down the trail
The boiling water is caused by gasses escaping from below
wide angle view of Cold Boiling Lake
The trail to Bumpass Hell continues around the other side of Cold Boiling Lake

The fog along the trail made for beautiful scenery
some great boulders and rock cliffs along this portion of the trail
loved the fog among the trees
Walkway in Bumpass Hell across Bumpass Creek
There are many steaming vents and boiling water along with a strong sulfur odor
There are also several boiling mud pots:

very surrealistic in the fog
an overlook of Bumpass Hell from the trail

Manzanita Lake
Did an evening hike around Mazanita Lake, 1.5 mile loop hike.
Started at the picnic area on the east side
reached the east side of the lake as the sun was setting and only the top of Lassen Peak was lit by the sun
more views as I continued on the trail around Manzanita Lake

Brokeoff Mountain
I think this is my favorite hike in Lassen National Park, 7 miles round trip with 2,700 ft of gain.
The trail goes by a couple of ponds
a view of Brokeoff Mountain as the trail comes out of the forest.
There were some late wildflowers
another view of Brokeoff Mountain and our trail
lupine in bloom along the trail
along the trail a great view of Brokeoff Mountain and Lassen Peak
further along the trail
Great view of Lassen Peak from the saddle below the summit of Brokeoff Mountain (on the right)
Laraine on the top of Brokeoff Mountain
