Grassy Top Mtn

We saw several piles of bear scat and

We drove up Sullivan Creek Road to Pass Creek Pass to hike up to Grassy Top Mountain. This trail is just south of the Salmo Priest Wilderness in the Colville National Forest. 8 mile round trip hike with 1,200 gain overall. we didn't see any other people on this hike.
We were pleasantly surprised to find a small monkshood in bloom along the trail
and several prince's pine in bloom as well.
Most of this trail is in the forest, along with lots of huckleberry bushes with ripe huckleberries.
We came across several piles of bear scat,
and what looked like cat scat (lots of fur in the scat)
The trail did go through a couple of open areas.

This is where the trail crosses over Grassy Top Mountain at 6,266 ft.
View from this spot on Grassy Top Mountain.
A short distance back down the trail, we found a boot track leading to a higher point on Grassy Top Mountain (6,375 ft)

Mankato Mtn via the Shedroof Divide Trail

We drove up Sullivan Creek Road to Pass Creek Pass to hike up the Shedroof Divide Trail from the south end to Mankato Mountain. This was an 7 mile round trip hike with 1,600 ft overall gain. We didn't see any people on this hike. The trailhead sign was hard to see off the road in the bushes.

We had to crawl under this downed tree early on the trail.

Lots of fall colors on this trail, Round Top Mountain.
Lots of huckleberry bushes full of berries along the trail.
Along with huckleberries come bears, we saw some very fresh bear scat.

This trail has lots of open views with a few short forest sections.
Mankato Mountain ahead on this ridge trail.
We found a small boot track leading up to the top of Mankato Mtn (6,590 ft)
Views from Mankato Mountain:

We enjoyed eating huckleberries and the fall colors as we hiked back.
