Badwater Basin

On our drive through Death Valley this morning, we also stopped at Badwater Basin while there was still some shade to keep us from getting too hot. This is the lowest spot in North America at 282 ft below sea level.

We walked out to the edge of where the shade was, about 0.4 miles and then back as the sun was rising over the mountains and we lost the morning shade.

What we were walking on, salt crystals.

Small amount of water in Badwater Basin this morning.

Up high on the left side of this ridge is the sign marking sea level.
