Little Lakes Valley to Box Lake
We drove up Rock Creek Road to Mosquito Flats, from Toms Place in the Eastern Sierras to hike part way in the Little Lakes Valley today. We parked in the lower parking area, as the upper lot was full, this added about 1/2 mile to our hike. We did this trail several years ago in the early fall, it was lovely to revisit this gorgeous area in the summer with the wildflowers blooming. The trail soon enters the John Muir Wilderness, through an open forest, with meadows and fabulous alpine lakes and mountain views. Even though we only did a short portion of this trail up to Box Lake, we were thrilled to be here. Overall our hike was 4+ miles with 400 ft of gain at 10.000 ft.
