Lake Angeles

We hiked up to Lake Angeles from the Heart O the Hills area on the north side of Olympic National Park. This is a 7.5 mile round trip hike with 2,400 ft of elevation gain. This is a beautiful forest with lots of shades of green.

With the rain and recent storm melt, the streams were gushing.

One of two water crossings on the trail

Lots of water

This toad tried to hike from us, but he was a good size.

We ran into the clouds as we continued hiking up the trail

Our first view of Lake Angeles from the north shore (wide angle)

There are some nice places to sit along the lake shore.

There is a boot path along the west side of the lake, loved the various views

Shi Shi Beach and Point of Arches

For our second hike at Neah Bay, we hiked down to Shi Shi Beach and down to the Point of Arches. This was an 8 mile round trip.
The first 1.7 miles is on the reservation in the forest.
 a beautiful forest

A good portion of the trail is very muddy.

Before entering Olympic National Forest, there are a couple of places to look out at the ocean below

At the boundary to Olympic National Park, the trail goes down to Shi Shi Beach. It is a steep 200 ft descent

View to the north of Shi Shi Beach
The tide was going out and revealed tide pools a short ways down the beach, with the Point of Arches in the far distance

we found lots of sea anemones in the tide pools

The end of the Point of Arches as seen with the tide going out:

low tide was +1 feet, which was quite a bit lower than the last time I was here.

There were lots of sea stars and sea anemones here
It was fun to walk out at the Point of Arches and to see the various arches

There is a large rock back near the shore with a cave in the base

Cape Flattery

We drove out to Neah Bay for a couple of hikes. First, we hiked out to Cape Flattery, a 1.5 mile round trip.  The walk is through a beautiful forest.

Some of the trail is on dirt and some on boardwalk.

Wide angle view from the end of Cape Flattery, in the middle is Tatoosh Island.

We saw a large sea lion swimming below us
