We are staying at the Chisos Mountain Lodge at Big Bend National Park and started this hike from our room, we also added a very short section f the Oak Spring Trail for a great view. Overall we hiked 6 miles round trip with 1,100 ft loss/gain.

We started at first light so we would be back before noon, the heat and the upcoming wind storm.

We enjoyed the mountain views as we hiked down the trail this morning.

After the early switchbacks, the trail levels off with a gentle descent for most of the remainder of the trail.

We saw a couple of Mexican blue jays by the trail (zoom)

The closer we got to the trail junction, the narrower the trail became.

Trail junction, we first went to the left, the end of the trail to the Window
This last 1/4 mile is through a slick rock canyon, today the washes were all dry.

The Window

We returned to the trail junction and headed up the Oak Spring Trail for about 0.3 miles and 300 ft gain. We saw several blooming ocotillo along this trail.
