Vineyard Trail

Today we drove up to Theodore Roosevelt Lake to hike a short section of the Arizona Trail on the Vineyard Trail. We did 6 miles round trip with an overall gain of 1,400 ft. View from the parking lot on the side of the road.
The first part of the trail is steep, climbing 800 ft in the first mile. View of  Roosevelt  Lake as we hike up the trail.

More views of Roosevelt Lake as we continue hiking up the trail.

Heading north on the Arizona Trail, we soon had views of Four Peaks.

Further along the trail, we could see the Salt River and a distant Apache Lake.

Beautiful cacti against the blue sky

Here there were towering red cliffs above us.

We decided to turn around as the trail began to drop along a scree field full of rocks. (Four Peaks in the distance)
