Eightmile Lake

Drove out to Leavenworth to hike up to Eightmile Lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. This is a 6.5 mile round trip hike with 1,425 ft of overall elevation gain. Fabulous wildflower hike in the late spring!
We saw lots of wildflowers in bloom from the begining of the trail.
Near the trailhead, we could see over towards Colchuck Peak, Dragontail and Asgard Pass.

There were many busy butterflies in the wildflowers.
The butterflies loved the many mariposa lilies that were near the beginning of the trail.
Lots of lupine and paintbrush
Bracted lousewort with lupine
There was lots of water in Pioneer Creek, it was nice to have two logs to cross over on.

Since the wildfire here a few years ago, the area is more open. Happy to see lots of new growth.
We crossed what appeared to be a remnant of an avalanche, lots of snow buried under tree debris.

Many Columbia lewesia in bloom,
and one of my favorites: Tweedy's lewesia

There are many small streams from snow melt over the trail and one area was very, very muddy.
View at Little Eightmile Lake, we took a short break here.
View of Little Eightmile Lake from further up the trail.
Lots of water in Eightmile Creek
View of Eightmile Lake and Eightmile Mountain, we only saw 14 other hikers on this gorgeous trail today.
