We drove up to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in the White Mountains in Inyo National Forest to hike two if the Schulman Grove Trails: combing he Bristlecone Cabin Trail and the the Methuselah Trail for a 5.5 mile loop hike with about 900 ft of overall gain. We only saw 5 other hikers on this route today.
These trails start at 10,100 ft.

We started on the Bistlecone Mine Trail where we saw old mining cabins and mine sites along with views of the Sierra Mountains to the west.

There were great views of the Sierra Mountains on this trail, along with tall Ancient Bristlecone Pine Trees.

After 2 miles, the trail joins the Methuselah Trail Loop, where there are many bristlecone pine trees.

View to the south along the trail

View of the White Mountains covered with bristlecone pine trees at the higher elevations.
A few of the bristlecone pine trees that captured my fancy (some of these trees are over 7,000 years old);

There were a couple of places along the Methuselah Trail where we could see some of the Sierra Mountains.
some of the wildflowers along the trail today:
