We did a loop hike around Weaver Needle in the Superstition Wilderness east of Phoenix Arizona. We started on the Peralta Trail, turned by Black Top Mesa and came back along the Dutchman Trail, Terrapin Trail and the Bluff Springs Trail, for a 12.5 mile loop with 2,700 ft overall gain.

I loved the red rock formations going up to the saddle along the Peralta Trail.

looking back to the south
zoom in to see the small heart sharped hole in the rocks

another look back towards the south

lots of cacti in this area

near the junction with the Dutchman Trail

lots of tall saguaro cacti here

The second half of the loop seemed much harder, going up and down over 3 saddles, a pass and two hills in the hot afternoon sun.

nearing the junction with the Terrapin Trail

more views of Weavers Needle as we head south along the Terrapin Trail.

Once we crossed over Bluff Saddle, we were back in among the red rock formation
almost back to the trailhead
the teddybear cholla had lots of new growth
