Paradise Snowshoe

A rare sunny day combined with moderate avalanche danger this winter/spring, decided us to go up to Paradise on Mt Rainier to snowshoe. Our original plan was to snowshoe up to Mazama Ridge. We found the Paradise Valley Road was being plowed.

At 4th Crossing, there was a high wall of freshly plowed snow combined with snow plows active at this junction. We decided to return to Paradise and snowshoe in that area.

We headed up the less traveled route along Deadhorse Creek. With the recent fresh snow, we were able to lay down fresh tracks in the snow.

We eventually joined the trail heading up toward Panorama Point.
Beautiful view of Mt Adams and Mt St Helens peeking over the Tatoosh Range.
View of snowshoers on the Glacier Vista Ridge.

A lenticular cloud forming over Rainier.
Below Panorama Point, we found a small plateau with a camp site on it. Nice views from here.
Looking back at Mt Rainier and Panorama Point
Cornice on the edge of the small plateau. Nice view of the Tatoosh as we descended into the Edith Creek Basin.

We saw very few people in this area today, we were often by ourselves.

Looking back up the Edith Creek Basin

Still a lot of snow covering the Paradise Inn
